As a student at the University of East London, Bonny Uba presented his final year project on the topic “Accounting and Management Solution (Back-office) for the Publishing industry”.

As a Systems Analyst Programmer, he was not fully equipped to engage the business world, so he enrolled on a 2-year AAT course and later on ACCA. His goal was not to sit the exams, but to acquire the required skills and knowledge to develop an accounting package unassisted by an Accountant.

He then embarked on writing the accounting modules of the now world renowned Focus on Publishing Software ®️ and Focus Advanced Publishing Software ®️- The complete accounting and management software solution for managing a publishing or book distribution business.

His strong accounting background has always given FOCUS a competitive edge over her competitors, who tended to produce systems without in-built accounting modules. In the words of one of FOCUS favourite customers and a Chelsea supporter, Mr Nick Oulton, of Galore Park Publishing, “What is the fun in creating a system which does not readily report on your profitability?”

Integration has always been the hallmark of FOCUS design philosophy. In the UK, we are the only solutions provider to combine Accounting Modules with Publishing-Administration modules, that is, Accounting Ledgers fused with Administration modules such as, Production Scheduling, Royalty Calculation, Rights Management, Title Management, Bibliography (ONIX) Delivery, PR and Marketing, and EDI, into a powerful back-office system.

In 1993, Bonny established Focus Services as a sole trader, to turn his school project topic into a reality. In May 1997, he teamed up with his 5 brothers (Demian, Aloysius, Joseph, Roland and Christopher Uba) to form “Focus Advanced Publishing Software Limited” and in 2017; they started work on BAR Global (mobile) app.
